De jaarlijkse Universiteit Utrecht Pathways to Sustainability conference van 5 maart 2020 is online terug te kijken, waar USI aan bijdroeg. De dag stond in het thema van ‘Accelerating the Transformation’.

Hoogtepunten van de Pathways to Sustainability Conference zijn de aanwezigheid van het reizende museum van de circulaire economie, de uitreiking van de eerste Pathways to Sustainability Award en verschillende parallelsessies waarin doorbraken in de duurzame transformatie centraal stonden.

Museum van de circulaire economie

Het museum van de lineaire economie, waarvan Utrecht Sustainability Institute mede-ontwikkelaar is, was te bezoeken op de conferentie. Het museum laat zien hoe de lineaire economie opkwam en langzaam werd vervangen door de circulaire beschaving. In een door Urban Futures Studio en USI georganiseerde expertsessie werden Utrechtse projecten zoals Werkspoorkwartier uitgelicht als blauwdrukken van de circulaire economie.

Pathways to Sustainability Award

Een van de drie genomineerden voor de Pathways to Sustainability Award is project Smart Solar Charging. Hiermee is Smart Solar Charging een van de beste transdisciplinaire onderzoeksprojecten waar de Universiteit Utrecht en externe stakeholders aan verbonden zijn.

Sessie pathways to circular cities

USI’s directeur Carolien van Hemel leidde de parallelsessie ‘Pathways to circular cities’, georganiseerd door twee Pathways to Sustainability Hubs Transforming Infrastructures for Sustainable Cities and Towards a Circular Economy and Society. Experts en publiek bediscussieerden de transitie naar circulaire steden.

Conference 2020: Accelerating the sustainability transformation

Every day we are confronted by alarming news of the climate crisis, vast biodiversity loss, faster than predicted thawing ice and permafrost, natural resource shortages, and rising social inequality.
